Ring of Kerry

Killarney, County KerryKillarney, County Kerry

179 km · May – Sep · Easy

N70 around the Iveragh Peninsula. Lakes, a bog, Atlantic inlets, and a coach convoy if you start late. Ireland’s famous loop — still worth it if you leave at seven.

Viewpoints

  • Ladies View

The lakes. Early, or you will queue for the lay-by.

    130 m

  • Moll’s Gap

The first real height. Then the peninsula opens.

    25 km

    260 m

  • Waterville

Charlie Chaplin’s village, a beach, a turn. The Skelligs if the cloud lifts.

Road
Mostly good N-roads, tight in the villages, coaches on the clock. Sheep. Rain in any month. Anticlockwise puts you against the buses.

Tips

  • 01

    Anticlockwise, and early

The coaches run clockwise from nine. Be past Moll’s Gap before they are.

  • 02

    This is a day

Do not add the Skellig boat and the Gap of Dunloe. The ring is enough.

Left Killarney at 6:50, anticlockwise. Ladies View empty. Coaches started at Moll’s Gap as we left it. That is the whole trick.

Waterville in rain, Skelligs a rumour. The ring is a day. I added Dunloe and lost the light. Don’t.
