Amalfi Coast Road
Sorrento, Italy → Salerno
80 km · Apr – Jun, Sep – Oct · Moderate
SS163 between cliff and sea. Lemon groves, buses that take the whole lane, and a coast that has been photographed for a century and still works.

- Road
- Narrow, busy, well paved. Buses and scooters. Summer is a crawl. Spring and autumn are the road.
- Permits
- ZTL rules in the towns. Park outside Positano and Amalfi if you can.
Tips
- 01
Not August
The coast in high summer is a car park. May or late September.
- 02
Let the buses go
They know the corners. You do not. Pull in.

Positano at 7:10, Amalfi before the boats. A SITA bus owned the hairpin at Praiano — I reversed into a lemon grove and waited. That is the coast, not a failure.

August is a car park with a view. We went in October. The cliffs were the same; the road was finally a road.
