Svolvær, NorwayÅ

130 km · Jun – Sep · Easy

E10 to a village named Å. Cod racks, granite walls in the sea, and a road that never quite decides if it is on land. The last 130 kilometres of Norway that people mean.

Viewpoints

  • Hamnøy

The red cabins. The bridge is the frame. Dawn if the season allows.

  • Reine

The mountain in the harbour. Ten minutes further than everyone stops.

The road ends. The stockfish museum is the punchline.

Road
Excellent two-lane, tunnels, bridges. Wind. Motorhomes in July. Winter is a different, darker road — and often the more honest one.

Tips

  • 01

    Go on to Å

Reine is the postcard. Å is the full stop. It is not far.

  • 02

    Midnight sun is a season

June and July. Book rooms before you book the ferry.

Svolvær to Hamnøy in a north-westerly. Reine was a car park. Å was empty and the point. The E10 is easy. The weather is the grade.

Midnight sun, 1 a.m., Reinefjorden still lit. Booked the rorbuer in March. July without a room is a different, worse trip.
