Pai to Mae Hong Son
Pai, Mae Hong Son → Mae Hong Son
110 km · Nov – Feb · Moderate
Route 1095 and its 1,864 numbered bends through teak and mist. Pai is the warm-up. Mae Hong Son is the town at the end of the counting.
Viewpoints
Pang Ung
A short spur. Pines and a reservoir that looks borrowed from somewhere colder.

Wat Phra That Doi Kong Mu
Mae Hong Son from above. The road earned the view.

- Road
- Sealed, tight, often damp. Motorbikes in packs. Night fog in the folds. The number on the kilometre stones is not a suggestion to hurry.
Tips
- 01
Count once
The 1,864 are real. Do not make it a race. Pai to Mae Hong Son is a morning.
- 02
Cool season
November to February. The rest is heat or rain, and the bends get slippery.

Left Pai at 6:40. The numbered stones go on longer than the jokes. Mae Hong Son by ten, Doi Kong Mu in the heat. Cool season or don’t bother.

Pang Ung on a spur — pines, a lake, cold air that does not belong in Thailand. The 1,864 are real. I stopped counting at four hundred.
