Salar de Uyuni
Uyuni → Incahuasi
100 km · May – Oct · Moderate
Twelve thousand square kilometres of salt, a horizon that lies, and a cactus island in the middle. Not a highway. Still one of the drives people mean when they say the world.
Viewpoints
Colchani
The salt hotels, the piles, the first white. Buy the glasses here.

Incahuasi
The island of cacti. Walk the ridge. The salar is a disk.

- Road
- Salt crust in the dry season; 4×4. The wet season is a mirror and a different risk — tours only. No fuel, no shade, no phone. Follow a track or a guide.
- Permits
- Park fee at the edge. A guide is not optional if you do not know the crust. Altitude ~3,650 m.
Tips
- 01
Dry season for the driving
May to October you can cross. December is a photograph and a boat.
- 02
The altitude is the hangover
Uyuni is already high. Do not sprint the first hour.

Dry season. Colchani, then a crust that sounded like glass. Incahuasi at noon, no shade. The altitude is the hangover. Uyuni first.

A guide, a 4×4, a track. I would not cross it from a map. The wet season is a photograph. This was May, white, and a horizon that lies.
