Garden Route
Mossel Bay, South Africa → Storms River
200 km · Oct – Apr · Easy
The N2 where it finally earns the name. Lakes, indigenous forest, a river mouth, and a stretch of Indian Ocean that stays on your left.
Viewpoints
Wilderness lagoon
The lakes begin. Slow down.

Knysna Heads
A short detour. The lagoon meets a hard sea.

Storms River mouth
The suspension bridge. End here, not at the N2 bridge.

- Road
- Mostly dual carriageway, easy, busy through Knysna. The old passes (Kaaimans, Grootrivier) are the soul if you leave the N2.
- Permits
- Tsitsikamma sections of the park need a SANParks day pass for the trails, not the highway.
Tips
- 01
Leave the N2 once
Kaaimans or Grootrivier Pass. That is the Garden Route of the postcards.
- 02
Storms River, not Plettenberg only
The mouth is the full stop.

Left the N2 at Kaaimans — that is where the postcard starts. Storms River mouth at four, suspension bridge to ourselves. The highway is just how you get there.

Knysna Heads in the afternoon wind. The lagoon meets a hard sea. Do not end the day at Plettenberg only — the mouth is the full stop.
