Shillong to Dawki
Shillong, Meghalaya → Dawki
85 km · Oct – Apr · Moderate
A road that finds a river so clear the boats look airborne. Jaintia hills, then the Umngot, then Bangladesh on the far bank. Shorter than Cherrapunjee, and a different Meghalaya.

- Road
- Narrow, often wet, some broken stretches after monsoon. Weekend jeeps from Shillong.
- Permits
- Inner Line Permit for some onward Meghalaya routes — not required for Dawki itself. Carry ID at the border belt.
Tips
- 01
Weekdays
The river is the point. The boats are not, when there are eighty of them.
- 02
Winter for the glass
Monsoon turns the Umngot brown. October onwards it goes clear.

Umngot so clear the boat looked stuck in air. Went on a Tuesday. That was the correct decision.
